Savor the delicious flavors of California’s quaint sea town of Carmel. During this three-hour mouthwatering guided Food Tour You will explore this picturesque neighborhood nestled just off the Pacific Ocean.

As you journey down the winding 1.2 mile culinary path, your enthusiastic epicurean Guide will provide interesting historical and cultural tidbits, all while you enjoy tasty, sweet and savory bites crafted in this beautiful town. Throughout the tour you will visit seven of the most unique restaurants and specialty eateries in town including a cheese specialty shop, a European Restaurant with a 34,000 bottle wine cellar, an Italian Delicatessen with house-made cheeses and exotic salamis, a local winery, a chocolate shop, and more gourmet culinary eateries!

The Carmel Food Tours are offered select Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays year-round, subject to availability. Tours typically begin at 11:00 AM.

The Carmel Culinary Walking Tours have a tour length of 3 hours and a total duration of approximately 3¼ hours.

The Downtown Carmel Culinary Tours take place in all weather conditions. In the rare event of severe weather, the tour may be rescheduled by your guide.

What To Wear

Dress comfortably in layers. Flat rubber-soled walking shoes are recommended for this culinary adventure.

Price includes all tastings with one wine and one small cocktail pairing. Water is provided at a majority of locations, but participants may bring a bottle of water or non-alcoholic beverage on the tour.

Children must be accompanied by an adult at least 18 years of age or older at all times.

Food tastings are carefully selected to showcase the foods of Carmel and no substitutions can be made however, vegetarian options may be provided with advance notice. Locations visited are subject to change.

Gratuities for your tour Guide are not included but are greatly appreciated and may be offered at the end of the event.

It was a Delight

We enjoyed the Carmel Food Tour. We got to see places in Carmel that we've never seen before. The food was good. Debbie, our tour guide was charmingly friendly and knowledgeable. The only downside of this tour was the parking.

Question: I would like to take my niece on this tour who is a vegetarian. Can they accommodate her?

Answer: With advance notice vegetarian substitutions CAN be made. Food tastings are carefully selected to showcase the foods of Carmel. Limited tastings are available for Vegan, Gluten-Free, lactose-intolerant, or low-FODMAPs and substitutions may not resemble the selections made for guests without restrictions, or may not be available at all.
Question: I'd like to take my father on the culinary tour in Carmel. He's older and can walk, but sometimes uses a wheelchair. Will he be able to keep up with the group or should I have him bring his wheelchair.

Answer: The tour leaders try to set a pace that works for the entire group. There will be approximately 12 other people on the tour, so they can slow the pace down but ask that you not participate if you don't think you'll be able to keep up. The shops are quite cozy and there are several short flights of stairs that Tour Guides can direct you around. Unfortunately this tour is not recommended for those requiring a wheelchair, however you are the judge of your own abilities.
Question: I live near Carmel and know the area pretty well. Will we be told ahead of time which restaurants we'll be visiting?

Answer: The locations are subject to change but always include a Continental-style restaurant, a European bistro and a cocktail lounge. Because you are also getting history and insider information, locals generally enjoy the tours just as much as tourists. You'll hopefully discover a hidden gem that you may not have noticed before!
Question: Will there be bathrooms available along the way during the tour?

Answer: Yes, most of the restaurants and shops have bathrooms. You'll have about 15 to 20 minutes at each location.
Question: How much food is served on the tour?

Answer: Enough that most people will not require lunch after the tour.
