Learn how to surf during this Private Introductory Surfing Lesson in Santa Monica! Whether you’ve tried it on your own without success or have never been up on a board before, this hour and forty-five minute beginner surf lesson will take you to the next level.

The adventure begins at the when you meet your certified Personal Instructor who will get you set up with all of the gear you’ll need. Once you have your wetsuit on, it’s time to grab your board and head to the beach. Here you will get a 20 minute lesson on how to pop up, water safety and surf etiquette. Then jump into the Ocean and spend the rest of the lesson learning how to ride the waves. You will be standing on your own and catching waves in no time!

The LA Surf Lesson is offered seven days a week, year-round, subject to availability. Lessons may take place between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM.

How Long Is It

The Los Angeles Surf Lessons are 1¾ hour and have a total duration of approximately 2 hours.

Weather

The LA Let's Go Surfing may be rescheduled by the Instructor due to high winds, heavy rain, fog or other inclement weather.

What To Wear

Please wear a swimsuit or swim trunks beneath your clothing, wetsuits are provided if you do not have your own. It is recommended that you apply sunscreen at least 30 minutes prior to your lesson and bring a towel, sunglasses, hat and a change of clothes.

Additional Information

Wetsuits, rash-guards and surfboards are all provided for the lesson and can be used for an additional hour following the lesson. If you have your own surfboard or other equipment, you are welcome to use it.

Participants must be over the age of 5, must be able to swim with their head above water and must be able to swim to shore. Younger participants and weak swimmers will be kept in shallow waters.

Participants are advised to be well rested and should avoid drinking alcohol the evening prior to their lesson. All Instructors are experienced surfers and have been surfing for over 10 years. They are all certified in CPR and First Aid, and some are also ocean lifeguards. Instructors are with the students at all times.

Participants are required to sign a Liability Release Form. If the participant is under the age of 18, a parent or guardian will need to sign the form prior to participation.

Surf LA

I got this as present for my boyfriends birthday, and it was absolutely amazing! Such a great experience to have and since we both had never surfed, it was so cool learing something new together. I definitely recommend this to anyone and everyone. Just be prepared for the next day, I was so sore I couldn't even turn the steering wheel while driving, but it's so worth it!

Question: Thinking of purchasing this for a fun gift for my daughter. How many other people will there be in the class?

Answer: This is a private class with just the participant and the instructor.
Question: Can I use my own surfboard?

Answer: This is a private lesson so you're welcome to bring your own equipment. However if you are a beginner you will probably want to use theirs. The have big, large foam boards that are easier to learn on.
Question: I was given this lesson as a birthday gift and would like to know What would happened if the waves are too small on the day of my lesson?

Answer: These lessons have never been cancelled for a lack of waves. The class is designed to show technique so large waves with a steep face are actually prohibitive. And the spots your local guides pick out always have waves!
Question: I would like to surprise my girlfriend with this gift, quick question- does the surf school have lockers we can use while we're taking the lesson?

Answer: There are no lockers, but the lessons are given just off shore and you'll always be in sight of your belongings.
Question: Is there any parking nearby?

Answer: Yes, you'll want to use the beach parking. Bring your stuff so you can spend the day at the beach!
Question: I am thinking of purchasing this gift for my niece, do you need to know how to swim to take the surf lesson

Answer: Most of the lesson is in shallow water and you'll be able to stand and push off. But when going in the ocean you should be able to swim.
