Make the Most of Daylight Savings…

daylightsavings headerNow that we’ve all ‘sprung forward’ and adjusted our body clocks to Daylight Savings (unless of course you’re based in Arizona!), you’ll have plenty of time to spare in the evenings…more time for activities! So make the most of the glorious evenings coming your way, and fill them with fun and unique experiences.

If you’re not sure where to begin, then fear not, we have put together a few suggestions to help you occupy your evenings, and brighten up your weeks…

Memphis-Dinner-Cruise_300x240Why not ‘spring’ into the season (pardon the pun) and spend and evening on a magnificent sightseeing Dinner Cruise in Memphis? Ignore the clocks, and step back-in-time, as you board the beautiful, historic Paddle-wheeler, and take in the sights of the “Mighty” Mississippi River. Dine in true Tennessee style, on the mouth-watering buffet BBQ – with pulled pork, marinated chicken and bread galore! Priced for 2 people, you can while away the sunset, dancing along to the some R&B, Jazz, and naturally, the Blues. There is of course an on-board bar, so why not have yourself some fun this spring time?…all aboard!

Las-Vegas-Gondola-Dinner-Cruise_300x240Perhaps you’d prefer a more intimate evening cruise? If you’re in Vegas, and looking for a little romance away from the bright lights of the Strip, then why not use your evening wisely, and head out on a Gondola Dinner Cruise for 2? Situated just outside of the city, you and a loved one (or a friend) will board a beautifully sculpted gondola, on the picturesque waterfront of Monte Lago Village. After a delicious meal of your choosing – from the accommodating menu – you can relax to the gentle music and share some quiet time as you watch the sun slowly set beyond the horizon.

Phoenix-Painting-Classes_300x240If you’re just looking for some evening fun on a budget, then why not gather up a group of the girls (or boys) and head on down to one of our many art classes, and painting nights. Whether you’re based in Boston, Houston, Seattle or LA, there is a painting class to suit you. And you needn’t worry about getting thirsty – many of our classes are BYOB, or have a well-stocked fridge – so you can have a few giggles, while you put your new-found artistic talents to the test, and create your very own masterpiece to take home.

Miami-Pub-Crawls_300x240Maybe you’re looking to give your Monday nights a boost? Then why not give the Pub Crawl Tour of Miami a whirl? Grab a mate and sip your way through the trendy Coral Gables area, savouring the history, culture and of course flavour of some of America’s, South America’s and even Europe’s finest. Who says you can only enjoy a drink at the weekend?!

Sunset-Helicopter-Flight-Philadelphia_300x240Or if you really want to push the boat out and impress on date night, then the Sunset Helicopter Tour over Philadelphia is a sure-fire win! Gain a whole new perspective of this great city, as you fly over the spectacular Delaware River and past the Philadelphia skyline – sunset is arguably the most beautiful time to fly, so make the most of the beautiful weather which is sure to come your way, and treat someone special.

So there really is no excuse – get out there and enjoy yourself…make the extra hours count!

St. Patrick’s Day Hangover Cures

St patricks header 2So, as you would expect, St Patrick’s Day 2015 kicked off with a bang across the globe, with street parties and parades from Dublin to Indianapolis. If, like many people all over the world, you’re celebrating St Patrick’s Day in the traditional fashion, then the ‘Luck of the Irish’ probably won’t save you from your hang over. However, we’re here to help you sort the myths from the remedies, and provide a few suggestions to help soften the hang over the blow, the following morning.

best-bloody-mary-cocktail-recipeHair of the Dog

We’ve all heard it said that ‘hair of the dog’ is just what you need to get over ‘the night before’, however scientists suggest that whilst a Bloody Mary may sound appealing, a Virgin Mary would actually be far better. The alcohol will feel like it is temporarily helping your hang over symptoms, but it will inevitably cause more damage in the long run and cause a delayed hangover effect which may in fact feel worse than the original! So maybe just stick to the juices?!

Greasy Breakfast

Pancake-BreakfastEveryone needs a classic grilled breakfast when they’re feeling rough, right? It may surprise you to find out that there is actually no evidence to suggest that waffles, bacon or pancakes have any hang-over-healing effects. However, most people will still tell you that they swear by it! Scientific research suggests that if we really want to help ourselves, we should stick to nutritional foods that are easy to digest, such as cereals and carbs – this way the calories can get straight back into your system, boosting your blood sugar levels, and giving you more energy to begin the healing process.

Sports-Drink-STACK-629x289Hydration & Exercise

This one may seem obvious, but if you’ve spent the following night hugging the porcelain throne, then hydration is key! Get on the water or the Gatorade, and re-hydrate that body!

…if you can handle it, gentle exercise is a great way to get the blood flowing more effectively, and stimulate your body. Combine this with water, and nutritious foods, and you’ll soon find yourself well on your way to recovery.

shamrock bannerFor those of you who are brave enough to face the outside world, we’ve put together a few suggestions to help you deal with the day and get your mojo back!…

Food-Cart-Tour_300x240Las-Vegas-Food-Tours_300x240Why not head on down to one of our many fantastic food tours, and line your stomach with some true culinary delights? Whether you’re in NYC, downtown LA, or Chicago we have a food tour to suit your needs – complete with pizza, hot dogs, chocolate and ice-cream to mouth-watering veggies, falafel and chicken – your roller coaster of a stomach will soon begin to feel more settled!

If you can’t handle walking for your food, then perhaps aSavannah-Dinner-Cruise_300x240 brunch cruise would be more suitable? With the fantastic River Brunch Cruise in Savannah, you and your guest can take in the historic views of River Street, whilst gorging yourself on a decadent buffet featuring all of your favourite breakfast and lunchtime treats. Then recover from your food coma, by basking in the sunshine on the upper deck of the vessel.

Central-Park-Bike-Tour_300x240If you’ve managed not to go too overboard on the St Patrick’s Day celebrations, and feel like a little air would do you good, then why not give our Central Park Bike Tour a whirl? You and your guest may choose one of three exciting guided tours, and don’t worry about the bike and helmet –these are provided upon arrival. As previously mentioned, the gentle exercise is sure to do you a whole world of good, and you will discover something new along the way…although you’ll probably be inclined to opt for one of the afternoon slots, after all…sleep is the best St Patrick’s day cure of all!

Easter Sunday Celebrations and Post Lent Indulgences

5We’re nearly half way through Lent! The start of Lent began February 18th also known as Ash Wednesday which is just after Shrove Tuesday may be more popularly known as Pancake Day! Lent is the ultimate test of will power and self-discipline for many.

Another incentive of ‘giving up’ is the positive change it may have on our lives that lasts beyond the 40 days of Lent. In order to find out what the most popular item people attempt to give up, Twitter conducted a poll to its users and listed the top 100 most common items.
Here is a quick list of the top things people give up for Lent:
Charleston-Tours1. Sweets- Candy
2. Coffee (caffeine)
3. Alcohol
4. Fast Food and Takeaway
5. Meat
6. Pizza
7. Chocolate
8. Social Networking
9. Swearing
10. School
How have you coped so far? I, myself have been trying to give up chocolate and have managed a strong 12 days (I started late due to some much needed comfort food after a week of being ill..) However, temptation will get the better of me as this Saturday I am indulging in a Chocolate Making Workshop. Yet! If you have done better than me (which I’m sure many of you have!) then why not reward yourself and truly celebrate with one of your most loved treats on Easter Sunday (5th of April).
I have therefore comprised a list of the top cosseting experiences to truly embrace the end of Lent.

Atlanta-Wine-Tasting-Classes_300x240Wine Tasting Class in Atlanta
The Wine Tasting Class in in Dunwoody, GA is a two hour fun culinary group class that operates on weekday evenings. Prepare your palette for a bouquet of typically six to twelve tastings of wine. The evening will then fall to a close, with dessert of chocolates and seasoned almonds. This gourmet class is ideal for wine novices and experts, providing a spectacular evening of elegance in the world of wine.

Seattle-Latte-Art-Class_300x240Seattle Barista Class
I think it’s safe to say that the majority of us need our caffeine injection in the early hours of the morning and perhaps increasingly so throughout the day, which is why we all know that one coffee addict. Take a hiatus on Starbucks and all other mass produced coffee houses. Learn to brew the perfect cup of coffee or espresso during this tasty three hour barista class in Seattle. This hands on class takes place in Kent, Washington at the Seattle Barista Academy. Receive a lesson in the perfect balance between grinding beans, amounts of water and milk and how to select the right coffee. When the experience finishes, invest your new barista techniques with provided recipes to take home and recreate a rich, bold and smouldering roasted coffee morning.

Boston-Pizza-Tours_300x240Boston Pizza Tasting Tour
If you can’t afford that flight ticket to Italy, why not try our Boston Pizza Tasting Tour. Yes, that’s right a tour of pizza. Taste authentic wood fired brick oven pizzas that are made with the freshest ingredients to give yourself the ultimate slice of Little Italy. If you are a local, this is the perfect way to find your new regular pizza hang out. During the Boston tour you will also have the chance to see the cultural roots of Boston, exploring five of the historic Freedom Trail sites. This is the ultimate experience gift for any pizza lover (and we know a few!) and the ideal indulgence for the real Italian within you!

These experiences are all family friendly as well as an ideal way to spend a day with a loved one. The weather is getting warmer and nature is truly at its best, which is why we are recommending the Pizza tasting tour which regularly starts round 11am or 2pm and makes for the perfect relaxing afternoon to stroll around in the warm sunshine. As Mother’s Day is also fast approaching (May 10th) we would also recommend the Wine Tasting evening to bond over your appreciation for grapes truly at their all-time finest. Let us know about your Lent experience and what you plan to do to celebrate the 40 day fast!

Experience The Ride!

PicMonkey Collage

I recently flew across the pond to visit the Big Apple on vacation. I was delighted to be given the opportunity to partake in some of the exciting experiences we sell with our American sister- Experience Days.

Picture1The RIDE is like nothing I have ever seen before; operating as a moving theatre, the bus will guide you on a journey through Times Square and midtown Manhattan, where passengers can expect to see a host of theatrical performances in this unique moving show. The audience watches the tour in a cinematic experience facing sideways to look out through the floor to ceiling glass windows, allowing a panoramic viewpoint that allows the viewer to see New York in a whole new perspective.

Picture2Nat and I met our group outside 42nd street at 8th Avenue right outside Chevy’s Mexican Restaurant. The bus was hard to miss and we were shortly welcomed on board! Our tour guides for the evening were Jackie and Scott- both made the whole ride extremely entertaining, bouncing off each other to form a hilarious comedy duo.

11015907_10206074192999090_1516119792_nThe tour lasts 75 minutes and is half a theatrical show and half a tour bus. It was a combination of historical attractions stopping at New York’s most popular landmarks as well as a glance at the pure talent of some true New Yorker performers. First stop was Times Square where we were wished a ‘Happy New Year’ by our first performer of the night; I don’t want to spoil all the acts as most are dressed as regular pedestrians so keep your eyes peeled! Due to the set – up of the bus which includes stadium seating, 40 monitors, 3000 LED lights & surround sound, making the ride really stand out (especially at night). One of the most exciting parts of watching the acts unfold before us were passer-by’s own reactions who were equally as surprised as us!

10994814_10206074703611855_67049855_nThere was a lot of audience interaction and we were made to feel immediately at ease throughout the tour. The whole tour is extremely stimulating and consists of a talented ensemble of singers, dancers, musicians, actors and rappers so you will be sure to find something of interest whatever your preference!  This experience is a rarity in that it is appropriate for all ages and would be perfect for the whole family.

ride

Thank you so much The RIDE for such an energetic and engaging fun journey through NYC. Nat and I note it as our favourite experience in NYC and I would not hesitate to recommend this experience to anyone visiting or staying in New York!

Williamsburg Food Tour

PicMonkey Collage

This Williamsburg Food walking tour is an ideal gift for anyone with a love of food and authentic Brooklyn culture. The tour begins in Eastern Williamsburg, a multi-ethnic area, with a predominantly Latin-American and Hispanic community. The diversity of cultures runs through the heart of the market, pushcarts and stalls alike.

11001801_10206020821864845_3956870147142178179_n

Nat and I met the group and our tour guide- Cindy at Princesa Bakery and Restaurant at 11.00am. We were warmly greeted with sweet tea and coffee and Puerto Rican baked goods, to make a delicious breakfast.

10629818_10206021422599863_8246684748881252654_n

Cindy, our tour guide, personified the rich charm of Williamsburg and offered a unique personal experience, with humour and interesting anecdotes along the way. The raw roots and rich cultural heritage of Williamsburg were truly exposed and celebrated during this exploration of Brooklyns’ hidden gems, with the tour built around interviews with neighbourhood residents and local business owners.

13981_10206020818224754_7293774364011015319_n

Cindy’s food expertise was apparent from the palate of rich exotic flavours that we tasted on the tour – from the colourful flavours of Caribbean patties, to the weird but wonderful pungency of cactuses. The natural character of Williamsburg entranced us throughout, with its unusual idiosyncrasies including a real Banksy painting on route, as well as its rich history, dating back to the 1930s.

10981539_10206020821664840_1776486241556494648_n

After visiting a Mexican supermarket, we were taken to Moore Street Market – built in 1941, marking the end of the pushcart era, today it is a hub for the Spanish speaking community. The market offers a veritable gathering of Latin American and Caribbean delicacies including my personal favourite; churros! Immediately, upon entering the market, we were engulfed by the rich aromas of the food.

10951421_10206021422359857_7992086014414896306_n

Cindy clearly had a genuine interest not only in the culture of the neighbourhood but also of each individual business owner who she had clearly built a lovely friendship with over time.

10984035_10206021422079850_340865554377374999_n

Nat and I were above all were overwhelmed with the generosity of each vendor, as they gave us huge food portions to taste. We had so much left over that we had to take some home…so I’d advise that you arrive with an empty stomach! You will leave with a new appreciation of Williamsburg and a craving to taste the authenticities of Latin America once more.

10989966_10206020819064775_4389743266147025142_n

The whole day gave me a new perspective of Williamsburg and is perfect for any of you fabulous foodies and culture vultures alike. Thank you Cindy!

Gifts For Pittsburgh

1000px-Pittsburgh_dawn_city_pano

So, you need to get gifts for the Pittsburgher’s in your life? We’re here to help! As usual, our first and best piece of advice is that when you buy a gift, you think about the person you’re buying for and get them what they’ll like. Sounds pretty easy, right? Well, it is, mostly. But in the event that you have ‘buyer’s block’, and you just can’t seem to figure out what to get for your Pittsburgh friends and family, read on to get some inspiration from our list of… well, stereotypes about Pittsburghers.

800px-Heinz_Field01Steelers stuff. Get them Steelers anything. Folks from the ‘Burgh love them some Steelers, and the best thing about this kind of a gift is that you can adapt it to suit all kinds of budgets. It’s a pretty safe bet that if you get them something yellow and black, they’ll be happy. If you’re loaded, get them some season tickets. If you’re doing ok, maybe a jersey and tickets to a game. If you’re neither of those things, any bit of cool Steeler’s merchandise will be much appreciated.

Do they drive? If so, have you considered getting them some new lawn chairs? If you/they are from Pittsburgh, you’ll know why. If you’re not, well, let us explain. Pittsburgh people do this thing, particularly in heavy snow, where they mark their parking territory with lawn chairs. It’s not a legal thing. There are no written rules… but park in someone else’s chaired spot, and watch what happens… So yeah, if they drive, get em some new parking chairs. If they’re new drivers, your gift could indoctrinate them into a lifetime of parking etiquette. What a gift!

In fact, Pittsburgh has a bit of a history with fairground fun -it was a Pittsburgher who invented the Ferris Wheel. Fathers Day Blog 1Another way Pittsburgh folk like to unwind is with booze – and the city is become better and better known for its craft beers and microbreweries. If your friend enjoys a cold frosty one, take them on a brewery tour (please note, this is different to a bar crawl), to sample some of the city’s best suds.

What about a gift hamper full of Pittsburgh food and drink? This is an amazing gift for a pittsburgher who’s moved away, and might be longing for a little taste of home. If you really miss them, send them a photo of a Primanti Brothers sandwich, with the the fries and the coleslaw all on there… in fact, send them a gift certificate for Primanti Bros. They’ll be back within a month… Maybe leave some lawn chairs out for them…
